The Cafe
All the tea, coffee, sugar and hot chocolate used is fairly traded.
The café uses salad leaves, edible flowers, herbs and some vegetables grown in the garden, when in season. This provides extremely fresh food, with extremely low travel miles! No pesticides or artificial fertilisers are used.
When it isn’t possible to use produce from the garden, local producers and suppliers are used.
Ellishadder Art Café uses the Skye and Lochalsh Food Link van whenever possible, to support local producers, to benefit the local economy, reduce food miles and to provide fresh, in season food with a local provenance.
Another one of our main suppliers is SUMA, a lovely company who promote fairly traded and organic goods.
The marshmallows we use are gelatine free and are made from fairtrade sugar.
Our free range hens that supply some of our delicious eggs are 'rescue' hens. Our ducks are free range too!
The paper napkins used are made from recycled paper and are bleach free -they are coloured white using potato starch!
All the products such as dish wash, fabric wash and cleaning products are environmentally friendly, biodegradable and aren't tested on animals. Some of our cleaning products don't contain any chemicals and are based entirely on plant and fruit extracts!
The aprons we wear are made from 100% Fairtrade, organic cotton.
Ellishadder Art Café reduces, recycles and reuses wherever possible. All our waste glass, tins, paper, cardboard and plastic bottles are recycled. Vegetable waste is composted in the garden to be used eventually on the vegetable beds.
